The State of Grace and Charity

Sanctifying grace makes one holy and pleasing to God and gives an estimable value to one’s good actions done with love.  If one lacks sanctifying grace, one is spiritually dead, and thus unable to do anything of value for eternal life.  This is clearly implied in the teaching of Scripture and of the magisterium.
 
At the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples that he is the vine and they are the branches; if they remain in Him they will bear much fruit, but if they are cut off from Him they can do nothing for eternal life (Jn 15.4f).  Saint Paul teaches that whatever good deeds one accomplishes, if one does not have charity (and therefore the state of grace which always accompanies it), one gains nothing “If I give everything I have to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing,” (1 Cor. 13.2).

“I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.” Upon seeing the centurion’s great faith, Jesus Christ instantly restored to health his servant. Christ then said to His disciples: “Many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Jesus Christ reminds us that many people born in infidelity will be saved, and many who are born into the bosom of the Church shall be cast into Hell!

On the Day of Judgment many shall see people whom they knew among the elect of God, but because they chose not to stop their life of sin, they themselves have gone into Hell. If we lose Heaven it is our own fault. We must stop now our life of sin while we still have time. If you choose not to change your life now, you may very well be abandoned by God. In times of temptation remember the reality of Hell. Turn to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary who will deliver you from sin!
