Our goal is this life should be to serve God perfectly. Faith is necessary in order to be saved. Hope is also necessary in order to have pure and right motives so as to please God in all our actions. But charity urges us to love God because He is infinitely good and He deserves to be loved.
Charity is a theological virtue that God infuses into our heart by which we learn to love Him with our whole heart and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. We must pray each day that we learn to love God above all things, even ourselves! To love God means being willing to lose fortune, good name, parents, friends, children, husband, wife, even our own life, rather than to lose God by committing a mortal sin.
Man was created to love God, therefore we can only find happiness in God alone. God alone is capable of satisfying us and making us truly happy. Turn to Him!

Effective Tuesday, June 30th 2015 the daily Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be at 6:30am. There will no longer be Mass in the Extraordinary Form at 12:15pm beginning on June 30th, 2015.

God alone can give us the proper nourishment that our souls require! He takes pity on us and nourishes our souls to sustain our supernatural life. Saint Paul reminds us that “we are baptized in Christ Jesus...in His death...so we also may walk in newness of life.” Only in Jesus Christ can we find everything we need for the nourishment and life of our souls. It is only in Him that we can find grace, love, faith and the inspiration to practice virtue! We must die a spiritual death to our faults and passions if we are to remain united to Him. This death must be constantly renewed: “I die daily” (1 Cor. 15:31).

Christ is the Good Shepherd. On the Cross His sufferings fulfill the prophecies written about the suffering servant Yahweh in the Book of Isaiah (52:13-53:12). His sufferings have a redemptive value. Christ takes our sins upon Himself and offers them on the Cross to God the Father as an atoning Sacrifice. We are now dead to sin and have the ability to live in righteousness and holiness with the help of God's grace!
No matter what suffering may come our way, it cannot compare to the suffering of Our Lord. When we unite our sufferings to the Passion of Jesus Christ, we have the opportunity to merit reward in heaven!
Christ is the Good Shepherd...”I will seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered” (Ezek. 34:12).

Christ and the Church
The Church is also drawn by Christ to her future existence beyond time. When Christ comes again in glory, and the last enemy, death, has been destroyed (1Cor. 15.26f), when sin has been cast out and every evil overcome, and every tear has been wiped away (Rev. 7.17, 21.4), the Bride of the Lamb will appear in all her radiant beauty, without stain or wrinkle, and will enter into the unimaginable glory of the Lord. The Heavenly Jerusalem will be revealed in all its splendor (Rev. 21), which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man ever conceived (1Cor. 2.9). The corruption of this world will pass away, and a new heaven and a new earth will appear, this present world having undergone a profound transformation that fills it with the glory of God! The risen Lord will raise up our mortal bodies, endowing them with the marvelous qualities of His own glorified body: spirituality, incorruptibility, agility, and resplendent glory (1Cor. 15. 42-44).

Our next pot-luck dinner will take place in the school cafeteria on Sunday, September 14th immediately following the 2:30pm Mass. All are invited. In conjunction with the potluck dinner, J.B. Kelly's family business will have their “traveling gift shop” set up in the Saint Agnes cafeteria to offer Catholic books, bibles, 1962 missals, DVD's, devotional items, Mystic Monk coffee and tea, and many other gifts.
If you have a special request for a book or other item, please contact J.B. Kelly prior to September 14th. This is provided as a service to the Latin Mass community with thanks to J.B. Kelly.
There will be no Latin Mass on Tuesday, September 9th.
In addition to serving as celebrant for Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Latin) here at Saint Agnes Cathedral in Springfield, Fr. Fasching continues to serve as chaplain to the non-Catholic hospitals in the Springfield area. These include Cox South, Cox North, Cox Walnut Lawn, Ozarks Community Hospital, and Select Specialty Hospital.
Fr. Fasching also assists Father Paul Wightman, O.M.I., with his parishes including Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mansfield; Sacred Heart, Mountain Grove; Saint Leo the Great, Ava; Saint William, Gainesville; and Saint Michael, Cabool.
As you know, there is no scheduled Latin Mass during the week on Mondays. This is Father Fasching's day off. You are asked not to attempt to contact him on this day.
God said to Moses: “Tell my people that if they faithfully observe my commandments, I will fill them with all kinds of blessings, but if they dare to transgress them, I shall punish them with all kinds of sufferings.” God said to Abraham: “Because thou hast faithfully kept my commandments, I will bless thee in everything. I will bless all those who bless thee. I will curse all those who curse thee. Out of thy race the Redeemer of the world shall be born.” God made known to Abraham's people when the time had arrived for them to enter into the promised land. “The people who dwelt in this land committed great sins. For this reason I shall drive them out and put you in their place. But take care not to transgress my commandments. If you keep them faithfully, I shall bless you in and above everything. When you are in the fields or in your houses I shall bless your children, who will then love you, respect you and obey you, and give you all kinds of consolation. I will command the heavens to give you rain at the proper times, as much as will be necessary to water your fields and your meadows. Everything will prosper for you.”
In another place in the Scriptures God says: “If you keep my commandments faithfully I shall watch unceasingly over your preservation. You can be without fear in your houses. I will prevent the wild beasts from harming you. You will be able to sleep in peace. Nothing will disturb you. I will always be with you. I shall walk with you. I am your God, and you will be my people.” Again He says to Moses: “Say unto my people, that if they keep my commandments I will deliver them from all evils that oppress them.” And the Holy Ghost says that “he who keeps the commandments of God is happier than if he possessed all the wealth on the earth.”

Satan is a master of making us believe that by indulging in our sensual appetites we will somehow find happiness and peace. However, there is absolutely no peace for us when we choose to offend God in any way! We have been created for God and God alone. We are meant to be united with Him. Sin separates us from union with God. The world cannot make us happy, only God can!
People of the world toil and labor to accumulate large amounts of money and riches. The more they have, the more they want. They are never satisfied. This is why the rich are often among the most miserable people in the world. They can never get enough. The people who are truly rich are those who seek God alone. They are content with what they have.
God alone offers contentment. People of the world will never believe this fact. They believe that giving themselves to God means bitterness and discontent. But those who choose to walk with God enjoy a sweetness and peace the world cannot offer!

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said the following with regard to the life of the Holy Family in Nazareth: "The house of Nazareth is a school of prayer where we learn to listen, to meditate, to penetrate the deepest meaning of the manifestation of the Son of God, drawing our example from Mary, Joseph and Jesus. The Holy Family is an icon of the domestic Church, which is called to pray together. The family is the first school of prayer where, from their infancy, children learn to perceive God thanks to the teaching and example of their parents. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said the following with regard to the life of the Holy Family in Nazareth: "The house of Nazareth is a school of prayer where we learn to listen, to meditate, to penetrate the deepest meaning of the manifestation of the Son of God, drawing our example from Mary, Joseph and Jesus. The Holy Family is an icon of the domestic Church, which is called to pray together. The family is the first school of prayer where, from their infancy, children learn to perceive God thanks to the teaching and example of their parents. An authentically Christian education cannot neglect the experience of prayer. If we do not learn to pray in the family, it will be difficult to fill this gap later. I would, then, like to invite people to rediscover the beauty of praying together as a family, following the school of the Holy Family of Nazareth.”

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, and I heard a great voice from the throne saying, “Behold the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be with them. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”
Advent is a time of hope and expectation. We look forward to a renewal. We look forward to a time when creation itself will be set free from its bondage to death. God has in store for His children things that we cannot imagine now, but one day we shall see God as He is. We are made in God’s image. Since we share in His divine nature we hope for the day that we will be able to see God as He sees Himself!

It is natural to fear death, but we really should not. In fact, it is not at all a morbid desire to long for death with one’s whole heart and soul! Actually we should rejoice at death because death means that we are finally delivered from this present “valley of tears” and all our earthly suffering! Death delivers us from our actual sins and through death we are given the chance to enter into the heavenly Paradise for which we were born!
What is death? Job says that our life is full of miseries, infirmities, crosses, persecutions and fears. This is not a life for rest and enjoyment, but for labor and suffering! The only way we can merit heaven is by toil, labor and pain. It is true that death is the punishment of sin, but the miseries this life offers are so great that death should seem to be a relief rather than a punishment.
If we are prepared to die, death is welcomed. In our earthly life the world, evil spirits, the flesh and the passions all draw the soul to sin and eternal death. But death brings us to the possession of Jesus Christ, our true life!

All Saints Day is a holy day of obligation in the Universal Church and in the U.S.
The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls. On all the days of November from November 1 through November 8 inclusive, a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. Partial indulgences are granted to those who recite Lauds or Vespers of the Office of the Dead, and to those who recite the prayer “Requiem aeternam dona eis. Domini, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace” (“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace”).
Sunday, October 27 is the feast of the Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is our King by right. He is the Son of God. In His divine nature as God He is the sovereign Lord and Master. He has conquered sin and Satan through His sufferings, passion and death. We too conquer sin and hell in and through Jesus Christ our King!
One may gain a plenary indulgence by the public recitation of the Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The following is the text of prayer:
Most sweet Jesus,
Redeemer of the human race,
look down upon us,
humbly prostrate before Thine altar.
We are Thine and Thine we wish to be;
but to be more surely united with Thee,
behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today
to Thy Most Sacred Heart.
Many, indeed, have never known Thee;
many, too, despising Thy precepts,
have rejected Thee.
Have mercy on them all,
most merciful Jesus,
and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart.
Be Thou King, O Lord,
not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee,

Although young infants will often sleep or rest quietly during the time of Mass, there are times when they must be taken out of the church so as to not be disruptive to the priest and the rest of the congregation. The Holy Sacrifice is a time of prayer. Some parents seem to find difficult to remove their children from the church when they find it hard to control them. We must remember that the saints assure us that distracted efforts to pray are always richly rewarded. Parents may always ask other adults without children to pray for them during the time of Mass. Pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary for patience and ask the Holy Family for help.

Our Lord Jesus Christ attracted people to Himself. He welcomed absolutely everybody. The Gospel shows how one day thousands of people followed Him and remained in His company for three days without eating anything. Jesus Christ worked the miracle of the loaves because He took pity upon the people.
If we look into this parable with a spiritual sense, we realize that there is no food in this world capable of satisfying our souls. All earthly goods, pleasures, riches and honors cannot satisfy the soul. The soul has been created for God. God alone can satisfy the soul. The world offers nothing but vanity. Those who love the world are under a great illusion disguised as happiness. The psalmist asks: “How long will you be dull at heart?” “Why do you love the goods of this world, which are all vanity and lies?”
If the goods of this world made men happy and content, the rich and powerful would be completely happy. But we see almost always they are in fact the unhappiest of men. No matter how much a man possesses, he is never satisfied. If we would learn to wish for nothing but God, He will satisfy all the desires our hearts!

We must therefore listen to God’s Word with reverence and submission. We must live the Gospel message with all our hearts.
We must remember the importance of ridding our minds and bodies of all vice in order to receive God’s Word and live it in a worthy manner. If we do not turn away from our evil inclinations we cannot do any good. Our pride can easily deceive us if we do not listen to God’s Word with the proper dispositions.

We must therefore listen to God’s Word with reverence and submission. We must live the Gospel message with all our hearts.
We must remember the importance of ridding our minds and bodies of all vice in order to receive God’s Word and live it in a worthy manner. If we do not turn away from our evil inclinations we cannot do any good. Our pride can easily deceive us if we do not listen to God’s Word with the proper dispositions.

Laws of Days of Abstinence: The Discipline of 1962
• Applies on one’s 7th birthday.
• Complete Abstinence: all Fridays of the year, Ash Wednesday, Holy Saturday, and the Vigil of Christmas.
• Partial Abstinence (meat and soup or gravy made from meat permitted once a day at the principle meal): all the days of Lent, the Ember Days of Wednesday and Saturday, and the Vigils of Pentecost and the Assumption.
• Abstinence from meat is dispensed on Holy Days of Obligation

The love Jesus Christ shows us is immense. Christ descended from Heaven to redeem us and save us from the power of Satan and the grip of Hell. “I am come that they may have life and may have it more abundantly” (John 10.10). Jesus came to earth not only to restore us to the life of grace without which we cannot hope to attain Heaven, but to give us an even better life that we had lost through our sin. Saint Leo once said that the benefits which we have received from the death of Jesus far outweigh the injury which Satan has done us by sin! This is why Saint Paul writes: “where sin abounded, grace did more abound” (Rom. 5.20).
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. What more proof do we need of God’s love for us? We were reconciled to God by Christ Jesus when were still His enemies! Jesus came not to destroy evil mankind, but to save it. Christ teaches us to be meek, and to bear and pardon injuries. However, meekness is not to be equated with weakness. Rather, meekness involves embracing compassion, patience and humility. These are all qualities found in genuine and sincere Christians. Jesus came to find His sheep that were lost. Have you allowed Him to find you?

If we embrace Christ’s lifestyle we will be able to resist the corruption of a paganized society. Immorality, fornication and impurity run rampant all around us. No matter what the world succumbs to we should always resist these evils because we are called to holiness of life. We are temples of the Holy Ghost. We have been purchased at a great price!
We must therefore strive to live with modesty and refinement. We must keep watch over our senses and hearts. We must avoid all occasions of sin. We should frequent the sacraments, especially Confession and Holy Communion. We should foster a tender devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and beg for contrition and reparation.

In memory of Saint Blaise, Bishop & Martyr, the blessing of throats will be offered this Sunday immediately following the 2:30pm Mass.
Satan deceives those who are sinners. He makes them think they lead a life of happiness and enjoy peace while engaging in their sensual appetites. However, there can be no peace for those who offend our God. God has stated that all His enemies lead a life of misery. God has created us with an intellect which gives us mastery over brute animals. We have been created for God. We must love Him and strive to be united with Him. God alone is able to make us truly happy. The world and worldly goods can never make a man happy and content.
King David once cried: “My tears have become my bread, day and night, whilst it is said to me daily: Where is thy God?” In a state of sin David sought out his many possessions and royal amusements, but to no avail. David’s conscience could only be heard to say: “Where is thy God? Go and seek the God whom you have lost. He alone can restore your peace!"
Sin brings only remorse of conscience. The Lord says to sinners: “You have refused to serve me in peace.” The result for the sinner is a life of hunger, thirst and constant yearning. Let us choose the happy life of those who love God. The peace which God offers surpasses all sensual delights the world has to offer. God alone can give content to the heart. Go to Holy Mass. Practice prayer regularly. Visit the Blessed Sacrament. Go to confession and communion often. Avoid evil conversations. Walk always with God and your life will change forever. You will enjoy peace which the world will never give you.
