Now is the season after Pentecost! It begins with the Feast of the Blessed Trinity and is the longest of the Liturgical year. In this last part of the ecclesiastical year, the Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, continues the work of Redemption...”The Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind whatsoever I shall have said to you.”
This last season of the Liturgical Year is filled with feasts of major importance: those of the Blessed Trinity, Corpus Christi, the Sacred Heart, the Assumption and Nativity of Our Lady, All Saints and All Souls!
“Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen!”

“I will send you another Comforter,” another deliverer, “The Holy Ghost,” says Jesus Christ. This Holy Ghost rules over the Holy Church and enters into every soul to enlighten and guide them in the way of salvation!
The problem is that not every man who has received the Holy Ghost chooses to cooperate with the promptings of His grace. Not all of us are children of the Holy Ghost. Many of us are children of the world.
We know we are a child of the Holy Ghost if we avoid grievous sin. The Holy Ghost can only dwell in a soul who has no part of serious sin. Every sin is an abomination to the Holy Ghost. Saint Paul writes: “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God.” In other words, do not sin! Sin turns the dwelling place of the Holy Ghost into the dwelling place of Satan! Saint Gregory says: “The sinner's heart is the devil's workshop, but not the dwelling of the Holy Ghost.” It is most notably the sins of impurity-unchaste thoughts, words, and actions which drive the Holy Ghost out of our hearts. The sensual man cannot receive the grace of the Holy Ghost. The book of Genesis tells us: “My spirit shall not remain in man forever, because he is flesh.” In other words, because he is addicted to the lust of the flesh.
If you have lost the Holy Ghost through leading a sinful life now is the time to repent! You must do penance to purify your soul and receive the Holy Ghost once again into your heart. Saint Peter says: “Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost!"

“Yea; the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God.” Jesus Christ made the above statement to His disciples while exhorting them to remain faithful to Him under the persecutions which they were to endure. Many Christians today continue to act this way! They kill their own souls by losing the grace of God through human respect and to please worldly friends!
Human respect is a great enemy of our salvation! Many souls are in Hell due to human respect! We cannot allow ourselves to be influenced by human respect!
We must avoid familiarity with scandalous sinners. St. Paul says: “But now I have written to you not to keep company...with such an one, not as much as to eat.” 1Cor. 5:11. We must always be on guard against intimacy with such sinners, lest through human respect and fear of contradicting them, we will imitate their example and lose the friendship of God.
Be vigilant. To save one's soul we must overcome human respect. It is impossible to follow God Almighty and not be persecuted. “The wicked loathe them that are in the right way.” Prov. 29:27. Sinners hate the sight of a man who lives according to the Gospel because his life is a continual contradiction to their sinful conduct. Do not be influenced by them and do not associate with them! Worldlings speak no language than that of the world.

Satan is a master of deception. He makes sinners imagine that by indulging their sensual appetites they will find happiness and peace. But there is in fact no peace for those who choose to offend God. The enemies of God lead lives of misery. Unlike brute animals, we as human beings have been created for God. We have been made to love God and to be united with Him. Man can only be made happy by God. It is impossible for the world to make man happy. All worldly goods are nothing but riches, honors and sensual pleasures. The words of Saint John: “All that is in the world is the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life.”
It is true that earthly goods are capable of puffing a man up, but they will never make a man happy or content. “Inflari potest, satiari non potest.” Many expect to find peace in accumulating riches. The fact is that large quantities of money do not close, but rather extend the jaws of avarice. In other words, the enjoyment of riches excites, rather than satisfies the desire for wealth. Worldlings toil and labor to acquire an increase of wealth and property, but never enjoy rest. The more they accumulate riches, the hungrier they become for them. The psalmist says: “The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger; but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good!” Of all the men in the world, the rich are among the most miserable. The more they possess, the more they desire to possess. They never succeed in attaining all the objects of their wishes, and therefore they are far poorer than men who seek God alone. These are the men who are truly rich. They are content with their condition. They find God in every good.

Mass on June 22nd (the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi) will begin at 1:30pm followed by a procession with the Blessed Sacrament. You are invited to Join His Excellency, Bishop James Johnston for Mass and the procession.
Mass on June 6 will be followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and benediction.
A plenary indulgence may be gained by publicly saying or singing the Veni, Creator on Pentecost Sunday.
Jesus Christ is our savior and our master. He taught us both by word and example. He showed us how to love God for whom we were created. He says in today's Gospel: “That the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father hath given me commandments, so do I.” Jesus also says that He came down from Heaven not to do His own will, but to do the will of His Father. If we truly love God and wish to be sanctified we must discern God's will in all things and do our very best to carry it out! Since Saint Paul tells us that the divine love is poured into our souls through the Holy Ghost, we must always beg the Holy Ghost for knowledge of God's will and the courage to carry it out. If we want to love God we must not follow our own will, but rather the will of God. We must conform our will to that of His.

However, there is absolutely no peace for us when we choose to offend God in any way! We have been created for God and God alone. We are meant to be united with Him. Sin separates us from union with God. The world cannot make us happy, only God can!
People of the world toil and labor to accumulate large amounts of money and riches. The more they have, the more they want. They are never satisfied. This is why the rich are often among the most miserable people in the world. They can never get enough. The people who are truly rich are those who seek God alone. They are content with what they have.
God alone offers contentment. People of the world will never believe this fact. They believe that giving themselves to God means bitterness and discontent. But those who choose to walk with God enjoy a sweetness and peace the world cannot offer!

Our Lord Jesus Christ attracted people to Himself. He welcomed absolutely everybody. The Gospel shows how one day thousands of people followed Him and remained in His company for three days without eating anything. Jesus Christ worked the miracle of the loaves because He took pity upon the people.
If we look into this parable with a spiritual sense, we realize that there is no food in this world capable of satisfying our souls. All earthly goods, pleasures, riches and honors cannot satisfy the soul. The soul has been created for God. God alone can satisfy the soul. The world offers nothing but vanity. Those who love the world are under a great illusion disguised as happiness. The psalmist asks: “How long will you be dull at heart?” “Why do you love the goods of this world, which are all vanity and lies?”
If the goods of this world made men happy and content, the rich and powerful would be completely happy. But we see almost always they are in fact the unhappiest of men. No matter how much a man possesses, he is never satisfied. If we would learn to wish for nothing but God, He will satisfy all the desires our hearts!

Satan deceives those who are sinners. He makes them think they lead a life of happiness and enjoy peace while engaging in their sensual appetites. However, there can be no peace for those who offend our God. God has stated that all His enemies lead a life of misery. God has created us with an intellect which gives us mastery over brute animals. We have been created for God. We must love Him and strive to be united with Him. God alone is able to make us truly happy. The world and worldly goods can never make a man happy and content.
King David once cried: “My tears have become my bread, day and night, whilst it is said to me daily: Where is thy God?” In a state of sin David sought out his many possessions and royal amusements, but to no avail. David’s conscience could only be heard to say: “Where is thy God? Go and seek the God whom you have lost. He alone can restore your peace!"
Sin brings only remorse of conscience. The Lord says to sinners: “You have refused to serve me in peace.” The result for the sinner is a life of hunger, thirst and constant yearning. Let us choose the happy life of those who love God. The peace which God offers surpasses all sensual delights the world has to offer. God alone can give content to the heart. Go to Holy Mass. Practice prayer regularly. Visit the Blessed Sacrament. Go to confession and communion often. Avoid evil conversations. Walk always with God and your life will change forever. You will enjoy peace which the world will never give you.

The Feast of the Holy Family offers us a chance to reflect upon God’s eternal truths and the true meaning of life. We are a pilgrim people and the true home we were born for is in heaven. In this world filled with temptation and the pride of life we must learn the great value of silence. We should ask God for the gift of meditation and reflect upon that which is spiritual. We should pray each day for a well-ordered and disciplined life of prayer. We must first be rooted deeply in Christ if we hope to fulfill our duty as Christians to bring Him into a world where so many are in desperate need of His grace.
The Feast of the Holy Family should also help us to understand the importance of family life. The family is the basic unit of society. However, it is rapidly deteriorating and in many places almost completely vanquished from our culture. The family is the context in which children were meant to be raised.
We should also reflect upon the value of work. Jesus Christ chose to become the Son of a carpenter. He was never too proud to embrace an honest day’s work. Saint Paul writes in his Epistle: “All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by Jesus Christ our Lord.” We should put all our hearts into everything we do and do all for love of God alone. If we can truly say that love of God is our motivation then we are on the path to holiness.

Out of sheer love God has created us with a free will. He wants us to choose for Him and He calls us to liberty. The wonder of the Christmas season and the grace of our redemption shine forth in the Nativity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Word made flesh used to speak to us through the prophets, but now God has sent His Son in person in order to reveal Himself completely and to save the world!
Christ became like us in all things but sin. He ate, drank and slept. He suffered and died to redeem us and thus strengthens us when we ourselves meet with adversity. When we accept Jesus Christ our entire being gains immortality! If we acknowledge Him while we live on this earth He will in turn acknowledge us before God His Father.
God has created us in His own image, thus we possess great dignity. We must turn our hearts to God without hesitation. Christ has taken away our sin. We must obey Him and keep His commandments if we wish Him to honor us.

The Latin Mass Community Confirmation date is October 23rd, 2011 at 7:00pm in Saint Agnes Cathedral. His Excellency Bishop James V. Johnston will officiate.
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” “Bear one another’s burdens; and so fulfill the law of Christ.” We have many brothers in Christ we must assist in time of need, by doing so we show our love for Christ Himself. We must also be willing to offer fraternal correction when necessary. This must be done with all humility and with an awareness of our own weaknesses and personal shortcomings. We can never take issue with another person’s sin without first acknowledging our own.
If we are not in the habit of asking God for Charity we must begin today. If we are not asking God for Charity we shouldn’t be surprised that we are so worldly. We must love our neighbor as ourselves if we want to show our love for God. Who is our neighbor? Absolutely everybody! Those who have wronged us, those who have injured our good name and even those who wish to do harm to us. We must love all of them as ourselves. We must rejoice when our enemies are successful. We must be sad when they suffer loss. If we do not do this and we do not believe it we are bad Christians!
So how do we know if we have Charity? Well, if we are not proud; if we are not controlling; if we refuse to judge other people’s behavior; if we don’t gossip. We have charity if we don’t question the motives of other people’s actions. We must never think that we are better than others. In fact, we must truly believe everyone else is better than us. We must not become disappointed when others have a poor opinion of us. A person who is charitable avoids hurting the feelings of others. He accepts the will of God in everything that happens to him, be it sickness or adversity. These things remind us we are sinners and that our lives here on earth are temporary.
We cannot work out our salvation without charity! When we have charity all the other virtues come with it. Charity purifies and sanctifies our actions. Charity perfects the soul. Saint Paul says in his epistle: “Brethren, If I speak with the tongues of men and of Angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And if I should have prophecy, and should know all mysteries and all knowledge: and if I should have all faith so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
Without Charity all other virtues are of no avail! Look at Jesus Christ Himself as our model. Look at what He did for all men, and even for those who killed Him. He prayed for mercy and forgiveness for them. He loved them. He offered up the merits and the sufferings of His death for them. He promised them pardon. If we do not have this kind of Charity we are only mock Christians!
