The Second Vatican Council teaches “The Church-that is, the kingdom of Christ-already present in mystery, grows visibly through the power of God in the world. The origin and growth of the Church are symbolized by the blood and water which flowed from the open side of the crucified Jesus” (Vatican II, Lumen gentium, 3).

From Father Fasching
The focus of the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the incomprehensible love which Jesus Christ shows us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. We must grieve over the ingratitude of men and make reparation by acts of love and adoration for the Blessed Sacrament. Christ instituted the Eucharist for three reasons: 1) the desire He has to be continually with us. 2) The desire He has to share all His possessions with us. 3) The desire He has to unite Himself intimately with us. A good meditation for the day would be to consider the sentiments of Christ when He saw Himself abandoned by all the people for whom he had done favors, even His closest disciples. Consider Christ’s true presence in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar when almost everybody abandons Him for most of the day, or rarely visit Him. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have mercy on us.
