Jesus Christ emphasizes His power to forgive sins in today’s Gospel. However, we must remember that God does in fact inflict punishment upon those who remain obstinate. The Scriptures do not mention any sin so severely chastised as the sin of impurity. There are many examples, but perhaps the most popular is the great deluge. It was because of sins of impurity that God sent upon the earth the great flood, when it rained for forty days and forty nights. With the exception of eight people along with Noah and the ark, all were destroyed. Saint Isidore writes: “There is no vice which so much enslaves men to the Devil as impurity.” It isn’t enough to simply fight impurity; we must win the victory and root the sin out of our lives permanently!
We must pray and flee from all occasions to sin in order to be successful in our efforts. It is impossible to conquer this vice without God’s assistance. If we are tempted to sin against chastity, we must immediately turn to God for help. We should pray the Hail Mary and repeat the Holy name of Jesus Christ. We must rid ourselves of the thoughts instantly; otherwise Satan will redouble his efforts to attack.

John the Baptist said the Lord will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire (Matt. 3:12; Luke 3:17). This unquenchable fire is the state of eternal separation from God, which the Church has called “hell” for 2,000 years.
Jesus says: “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41). “They will go away into eternal punishment” (Matt. 25:46). This is in reference to eternal fire.
Purgatory occupies an important place in our holy religion. It forms one of the principal parts of the work of Jesus Christ, and plays an essential role in the economy of the salvation of man. We must pray for the dead and foster a devotion to the souls in Purgatory.
The Book of Maccabees reminds us that: “It is a holy and wholesome thought, to pray for the dead, that they may loosed from sins.” Prayer for the dead, sacrifices, and suffrages all form a part of Christian worship and devotion towards the souls in Purgatory which the Holy Ghost Himself infuses with charity into the hearts of the faithful.
One of the best means of avoiding Purgatory is to foster a tender devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Charity and works of mercy of every kind are also a powerful means to avoid Purgatory. Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. If you forgive men their offenses, your Heavenly Father will forgive you also your offenses. Give to everyone that asks of you, and it shall be given to you; for with the same measure that you shall give, it shall be measured to you again.

2) A means for preserving the home…”There is no surer means of calling down God’s blessings upon the family…than the daily recitation of the Rosary”… Pope Pius XII
3) For courage in the hardships of life …”a powerful means of renewing our courage will undoubtedly be found in the Holy Rosary”…Pope Leo XIII
4) As a ready and easy means of preserving the faith…”We have elsewhere brought it to the attention of the devout Christian that not least among the advantages of the Rosary is the ready means it puts in his hands to nurture his faith, and to keep him from ignorance of his religion and the danger of error”…Pope Leo XIII
We should pray the rosary for the intention of making sacrifices in order to save sinners and ourselves from hell. What are the sufferings of the damned? What is the nature of the pain of sense? Theology has traditionally distinguished two kinds of torment suffered by the damned, the pain of loss and the pain of sense. Both are exemplified in the words which Christ will speak to the damned at the general judgment: “Depart from me (pain of loss), you condemned, into that everlasting fire (pain of sense), prepared for the devil and his angels” (Mt 25.41).
The pain of loss is the intense suffering experienced by the damned because of their eternal separation from God. We can explain it in this fashion. God has given the human person, as a rational creature, a radical craving for unlimited goodness, beauty, love, and life, and the happiness that their possession would bring. But these goods can be found only in God. He alone is the fullness and the source of all goodness, beauty, love, life, and of all beatitude. To reject God is to close oneself off from these riches and to condemn oneself to the pain of a deep-seated craving that can never be satisfied. Think of a drug addict who cannot get the drug he craves. Only one who has known the torment of such unsatisfied craving can have any idea of how painful can be the frustration of a deep human longing. But nothing can compare to the need that the human person has for God, and nothing can equal the pain that comes from losing Him.
The pain of sense is the suffering experienced by the damned expressed in the worlds, “Depart from me you condemned, into that everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” The image of fire is found frequently in both the Old and the New Testament to describe the pains of hell. Traditional theology has understood scriptural hell fire to be an element analogous to material fire that would have the capacity to inflict pain not only upon material bodies, but also upon pure spirits. It understood this element to be extrinsic to the human person and to be inflicted by God as vindictive punishment. In this understanding, God’s justice requires that the sinner who has disobeyed God in seeking disordered pleasure from creatures must suffer punishment in proportion to the offense.

If God is merciful and if the human person is free, and thus capable of change, why must hell be eternal? We must not imagine that the damned piteously plea for God to accept their repentance and that He refuses to do so because they failed to meet a deadline that God arbitrarily set. If they are in hell forever it is because they refuse to repent and, indeed, given their choice to be who they are, they cannot repent. They do not wish to repent because they have freely chosen to make themselves and their will, not God and His will, the absolute value of their existence. Instead of embracing the infinite goodness and richness that is God, they have elected the barrenness which is themselves apart from God. It is not God who first rejects the damned, it is they who reject God, and they continue to reject Him. If God should offer the damned all the joys of heaven as a reward for sincere repentance, they would say, “I would rather be damned than submit to you.” Their will is totally, firmly, and irrevocably fixed upon themselves and against God. Having excluded God completely from their existence, they lack the principle from which conversion could take its origin; that is, reverence and love for God and a willingness to obey Him.
Let us pray for the conversion of sinners through the Holy Rosary!

Many saints have had mystical experiences of hell. One well know account is contained in the report on the Fatima apparitions which Lucia Santos, one of the seers of Fatima, submitted to Dom Jose, bishop of Leiria, on 31 August 1941. Lucia writes that during the apparition of 13 July 1917, Our Lady gave the three children a momentary glimpse of hell to encourage them to pray for sinners.
After the vision ended, Our Lady urged the children to pray and offer many sacrifices to save sinners from hell. The Holy Rosary is a most powerful means to do so! It is a weapon to combat evil. It is a powerful means of obtaining Christian perfection and graces from God.

Surrender to Christ
Christ is faithful and will never abandon us. We should treat Him as our best of friends. The reason we were born was to ultimately be with Him in heaven. As Christians, we live in this world, but are not of this world. Our true home is in heaven. We should therefore constantly strive to obtain eternal life. In order to do so we must rely on the grace provided by Jesus Christ. We cannot merit heaven on our own because of our fallen nature.
We should have recourse to the Blessed Virgin Mary always and beg her to come to us along with her son Jesus Christ. We should ask with confidence. Christ comes to us in the Blessed Sacrament and we may receive Him whenever we wish. He gives us His Flesh and Blood and no enemy in the world can touch us when we have the Son of God on our side!
Let us surrender ourselves completely to Jesus Christ. Let us ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to draw us closer to Him. Let us allow the will of Christ to always work in and through us as His followers.

Jesus Christ abased Himself before the Majesty of God the Father. He took the form of a servant. He willed to be thought of as the lowest of men, a man of sorrow. Jesus is the Holy of Holies, separated from sinners, but He took on Himself the sins of all men.
Jesus has drawn upon Himself all the blows of God’s anger. We are God’s creatures. We are infinitely dependent on our Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. Without God’s grace we cannot possibly make any progress and we cannot persevere without being supported by God’s grace.
We must therefore humble ourselves before God the Father as the publican does in the Gospel. If we acknowledge our lowliness, God will draw near to us. We must learn to keep our hearts contrite and humble in God’s presence. We cannot attribute to ourselves any talent, success or good work. We must realize what is ours and what is God’s.
Let us pray that we will be humble and recognize our sins.

In the Gospel Christ throws out of the temple the buyers and sellers. He reminds them that the temple is a house of prayer. We should realize that prayer is the first way that we invite Christ into our hearts. It is through prayer that we are strengthened and become more disposed to receive grace. We must never neglect our prayer!

We too should live our lives embracing this power, wisdom, and strength.
As God’s adopted sons, we must live our lives as children of the light. We must not be outdone by the children of this world in zeal. We must learn to take sanctity by force. Saint Paul says this involves not living according to the flesh, lest we die. Instead, we live by the Spirit and mortify the deeds of the flesh in order to live!
As Christians, we must profess our belief in Christ by the witness of our lives. We live in the midst of a culture of death and darkness. We should never be outdone in zeal when it comes to bringing the light of Christ to the world.

Grace
Grace is what makes us whole. Grace is what heals our ills. Grace is what allows us to become holy. Grace is a gift from God. We receive grace according to the capacity with which we allow ourselves to be disposed to do so. Open up your heart. Beg God for a share in the same graces He gave to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Believe firmly in what is not seen by the eyes. There is much more than what the eyes of your body reveal. What is seen belongs to this world, but what is not seen belongs to our true homeland in heaven. Be always ready to receive the giving of grace!

The wonderful effects of baptism should remind us of the profound meaning of this rite which Jesus Christ Himself instituted. Baptism should remind us of the Passion of Christ as well as the future glory won for us as a result of His Passion. Baptism gives us a “new birth” and at the same time presupposes a symbolic death.
When we were baptized we were born into a new life. We were freed from the darkness of sin and entered into a new light. God removes every trace of sin in baptism and also remits the penalties that these sins incur. We are given all the graces necessary to live a good Christian life. The soul receives the mark of a Christian forever!
Christ suffered physical death. In baptism we die spiritually to the life of sin. Because of Christ’s death sin and satan no longer have power over us. However, we must exercise our own personal effort in order to remain dead to sin. God’s grace is always with us provided that we cooperate with it.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus should prompt us to remember the infinite love which Jesus Christ shows us in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. When we consider the life of Christ-- His suffering, passion and death, we must realize He didn’t stop giving of Himself after He wrought our redemption. He instituted the Eucharist before He died so that He could be with us until the end of time.
Christ gave His life for us on the cross. He continues always to give of Himself in the Blessed Eucharist. In so doing He shares with us all of His blessings! “Come to me all you that labor and are burdened, and I will refresh you.” (Matt. 11:28). Christ gives Himself to us to be our strength and nourishment! When we possess Jesus Christ we possess all things!

The Blessed Virgin Mary conceived Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost. She was with the disciples gathered in prayer on the day of Pentecost to preside over the birth of the Church. We must realize that we need the Holy Ghost to fulfill our apostolic activity to build up the Body of Christ. We possess the very same Spirit the disciples received, therefore we have the very same power within us to accomplish great things in Christ.

After Jesus Christ breathed upon His Apostles and filled them with the Holy Ghost they were finally able to grasp the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ, who was truly born of the Blessed Virgin Mary, truly suffered and died, had actually truly risen from the dead as well! The cross had given scandal to them and their faith in the resurrection was weak, but now they firmly believed in the risen Christ!

After Jesus Christ breathed upon His Apostles and filled them with the Holy Ghost they were finally able to grasp the fact that our Lord Jesus Christ, who was truly born of the Blessed Virgin Mary, truly suffered and died, had actually truly risen from the dead as well! The cross had given scandal to them and their faith in the resurrection was weak, but now they firmly believed in the risen Christ!

Consecration means that a person or thing (e.g., a building, chalice, vestments, etc.) is withdrawn from profane use and is dedicated to the service of God; the object thereby becomes sacred and is to be treated with reverence and respect. The Church is holy by consecration because it is set apart by God to live in union with Him and to serve Him. An individual person becomes a member of God’s holy people through Baptism by which a person is consecrated to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Through this same rite the person assumes the obligation to live a holy life worthy of the consecration he has received by God’s grace.
The Church is ontologically holy because of its life-giving union with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and the life of grace that flows from that union. Jesus Christ alludes to this union in the Gospel when he explains clearly that He came forth from the Father and that He now leaves this world to go back to the Father.
It is because of this union of love that Christ assures us we can ask anything of the Father in Christ’s name and it will be given to us! Let us pray with confidence! Let us pray with faith!

They are fully incorporated into the society of the Church who, possessing the Spirit of Christ, accept her entire system and all the means of salvation given her, and through union with her visible structure are joined to Christ, who rules her through the Supreme Pontiff and the bishops. This joining is effected by the bonds of professed faith, of the sacraments, of ecclesiastical government, and of communion. (LG 14b-366)
To be fully incorporated into the Church one must be united to it by all of the bonds, interior and exterior. The interior bonds of the Holy Ghost include sanctifying grace, faith, hope and love. The exterior bonds include the same professed faith, sacraments, government, and communion.

“He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me” (Lk 10:16). The Apostles are ambassadors of Christ just as Christ is the ambassador of the Father. The bishops are successors of the Apostles. Christ commands that the teaching of the Apostles should be religiously accepted and kept as if it were His very own. Vatican II, in its document Presbyterorum ordinis, states that “The function of the bishop’s ministry was handed over in a subordinate degree to priests so that they might be appointed in the order of the priesthood and be co-workers of the episcopal order for the proper fulfillment of the apostolic mission that had been entrusted to it by Christ.”
One key part of this mission is to continue to encourage Penance for the forgiveness of sins. The Church has always understood that Jesus Christ Himself conferred upon the Apostles authority to forgive sins. This power is exercised is the sacrament of Penance.
The sacrament of Penance is the most sublime expression of God’s love and mercy towards men. Christ waits for us and invites us to repentance. The Popes have always encouraged regular use of the sacrament of Penance. It is a means to grow in knowledge of ourselves and in Christian humility. Through confession we root out our vices and maintain spiritual fervor. Let us implore the mercy of God on ourselves and upon all mankind.

POT LUCK DINNER SUNDAY, APRIL 1ST AFTER THE 2:30PM LATIN MASS
Jesus Christ is a true king as He makes His way in triumph into Jerusalem. Jesus calmed the seas. He cured the sick, healed the leper, gave sight to the blind, made the lame walk, and commanded the paralytic to carry his own bed home. Christ is the master of evil spirits, nature, and man.
Jesus even raised Lazarus from the tomb! “Who is He, who has command over death and the grave?” As Christ makes His way into Jerusalem He is the king whose coming was foretold by the prophets. He has shown Himself as master over all creatures, over nature, and even the evil spirits.
In this triumphal entry, unlike the triumphal processions of the days of old, pride and ambition are not represented. Instead humility, meekness, mortification and self-denial are all apparent. In one word, unselfishness! Christ was loved by the poor and outcast of the world. He had no friends in high places. He had no friends who were rich.
“Hosanna! Hail to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” This is the way Christ comes to us when we receive the Holy Eucharist. He humbles Himself for our sake. Let us receive Him with gratitude and give Him back all we have and are. Let us give Him our hearts.

Christ offered Himself upon the Cross because He willed it. No one took His life from Him. He laid it down freely. Christ offered His life for the sins of the world. By the will of His Father, weariness, fear and sadness broke His heart. Christ was a lonely stranger upon the earth. He was without true friends in the midst of a perverse, sensual and ungrateful people! Imagine how He must have longed for heaven and His Father’s house.
Christ watched in terror as the heartless executioners mocked Him, abused Him and spit in His face. He watched the hypocritical Pharisees ridicule Him on the road to Calvary. Saint Leo the Great tells us that:
“True reverence for the Lord’s passion means fixing the eyes of our heart on Jesus crucified and recognizing in Him our own humanity. The earth-our earthly nature-should tremble at the suffering of its Redeemer. The rocks-the hearts of unbelievers-should burst asunder. The dead, imprisoned in the tombs of their mortality, should come forth, the massive stones now ripped apart. Foreshadowing’s of the future resurrection should appear in the holy city, the Church of God: what is to happen to our bodies should now take place in our hearts.
No one, however weak, is denied a share in the victory of the Cross. No one is beyond the help of the prayer of Christ. His prayer brought benefit to the multitude that raged against Him. How much more does it bring to those who turn to Him in repentance.”
